As a technical business analyst focused on the use of data, you will be involved in the definition and development of products and services working alongside customers, designers, Engineering Managers and Architects, to shape, define and prioritise a backlog of features and user stories to deliver outcomes for customers and the business.
The BA will engage with key stakeholders to elicit their data needs for different products. This involves conducting interviews, workshops, and meetings with clients, brokers and insurers to understand, assess and document their requirements.
- Define and evolve core data models for different Lines of businesses/products within Insurance, where data transformation is required including data normalisation, enrichment, aggregation, and cleansing.
- Define and maintain canonical data schemas (JSON) with versioning strategies, and steward schema governance across lines of business, markets and geographies.
- Work with the Product Managers, Architects and Principal Developers to break down features and user stories that can be implemented and developed by the engineering team.
- Create unambiguous clarity in what needs to be built, with clear context and rationale to aid the development process.
- Work with UX to create Personas, document user journeys, process flows and use cases.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive experience as a Technical Business Analyst working on APIs & data products performing analysis, documenting requirements, epics, features, and user stories. Owning features end to end.
- Experience in mapping data requirements, schema design and governance.
- Worked with Agile methodologies, embedded within a software development team, in an environment with live customers and stringent SLAs.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate ideas to people with disparate skill sets and technical knowledge.
- Experience in influencing senior stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and high‑quality standards whilst demonstrating pragmatic thinking and delivering at pace.
- At ease working in a highly collaborative, multi‑team environment, able to give and accept constructive criticism.
- Experience of identifying opportunities, shaping the problem and defining solutions to solve for them, working with a cross‑functional team.
- Sharp analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Other highly desirable, but not essential skills are:
- Experience working with agent workflows, tool‑use patterns (e.g., API orchestration), retrieval over structured/unstructured data, prompt design, and guardrails.
- Possess a solid understanding of the insurance industry and policy lifecycle, particularly in the commercial segment. This includes knowledge of various insurance products, underwriting processes, claims management, and policy servicing.
- Practical experience aligning with ACORD schemas, message types, and conformance testing in insurance ecosystems.
- Formal Business Analyst / Product Owner / Product Management training and accreditations.
