We are seeking a talented lawyer with (re)insurance experience to join our UK-based Legal team as Legal Counsel. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a dynamic, international reinsurance broking environment.
This is a broad and varied position within the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), providing exposure across legal, compliance, and risk matters. You will work closely with the Senior Legal Counsel and Legal Director, supporting the delivery of high-quality, commercially focused legal advice across the business.
The OGC is a central function responsible for Legal, Compliance, Risk, Market Securities, Sanctions, and Corporate Governance (including Company Secretariat). This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across these areas while partnering with both legal colleagues and the wider business. This role is a 12 month FTC.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Senior Legal Counsel in the day-to-day operation of the OGC.
- Advise and negotiate a range of (re)insurance agreements including Client and Carrier TOBAs as well as (re)insurance contracts.
- Supporting BAU requirements including reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts including NDAs, SaaS/software licences, MSAs, SOWs, engagement letters, property leases and other commercial terms.
- Work closely with Compliance to maintain robust legal and regulatory oversight across the business.
- Provide corporate legal support, including intra-group matters and governance activities including Co Sec activities.
- Contribute to legal process improvements, policy development, and best practice initiatives.
- Support strategic and cross-functional projects as a legal SME.
- Assist on multi-jurisdictional matters within a global broking context.
- Qualified solicitor or barrister (UK).
- Experience gained in private practice or in-house within (re)insurance or insurance broking sector.
- Experience covering a wide range of general commercial and contract law matters.
- Experience handling multi-jurisdictional legal matters.
- Experienced in collaborating with legal, compliance and business teams.
- Proven technical ability and strong drafting skills.
- Insurance law knowledge desirable with broking experience beneficial including TCF and FCA handbook.
- Experience in transaction support and cross-border reinsurance broking.
- Experience of the insurance industry/London Market and/or policy wording drafting would be highly desirable.
- Experience of intercompany and corporate legal support, including supporting company secretariats would be beneficial.
- Strong communication skills.
- The ability to identify and resolve legal risks.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Flexibility and willingness to be involved in all areas of the OGC.
