Job Description

Care Home Chef

£14.30 per hour | Small Care Home

Good food is an important part of everyday life in a care home – and in a smaller setting, a Chef has the opportunity to really get to know residents, their preferences and their individual dietary needs.

We’re looking for an experienced Chef to join a welcoming care home, preparing fresh, enjoyable and nutritious meals for residents. You’ll need previous experience working within a professional kitchen and a good understanding of food safety, allergens and specialist diets.

Previous care home experience would be preferred, particularly if you’re already familiar with adapting menus for different dietary and nutritional requirements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience working as a Chef within a professional kitchen – essential
  • Care home or healthcare catering experience would be preferred
  • Strong knowledge of food allergies and allergen management
  • Experience preparing meals for specialist and modified diets
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety
  • Confidence adapting meals around individual dietary requirements
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills
  • Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety
  • A reliable and flexible approach
  • An understanding of the importance of nutrition and hydration for older adults

Your Role in the Kitchen

  • Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious and appealing meals for residents
  • Cater for individual preferences, allergies and specialist dietary requirements
  • Adapt meals where required while maintaining presentation and enjoyment
  • Follow food hygiene, allergen and health and safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean, organised and well-run kitchen
  • Monitor food storage, stock rotation and temperature records
  • Work with the wider care team to understand residents’ changing dietary needs
  • Help make mealtimes an enjoyable and positive part of residents’ day
