You will support the Head Chef in preparing and cooking meals for older adults, including residents with specialist dietary needs. The role is hands-on, covering meal preparation, portioning, and ensuring food is safe, nutritious, and meets individual care plans. You’ll work closely with care and kitchen staff to make sure residents’ meals are delivered consistently to a high standard.
This role requires recent experience as a Sous Chef in a care home or similar healthcare setting. You must have strong working knowledge of allergies, specialist diets, nutrition and hydration. This position is not suitable for chefs without care sector experience.

- Strong knowledge of allergens, specialist diets, modified textures and hydration needs
- Level 2 Food Hygiene (minimum)
- Confident working within compliance and inspection frameworks
- Ability to lead shifts in the Head Chef’s absence
- Prepare and cook meals in line with care plans, allergy controls and IDDSI guidance where required
- Support the Head Chef with menu planning and seasonal adaptations
- Supervise kitchen staff and maintain safe food handling standards
- Monitor food temperatures, storage and stock rotation in line with HACCP
- Liaise with care staff regarding residents’ nutritional needs and intake
- Maintain accurate records to meet environmental health and care compliance standards
