Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships. Role Purpose: To ensure Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel tests are carried out in an effective and efficient manner. To develop, implement and refine facility and capability improvement projects. Line Management for the Wind Tunnel Engineer Team ensuring tests are carried out to the highest standard, providing quality data in the most efficient manner.
Main Duties:
- Lead the Wind Tunnel Engineering Team ensuring output and quality standards are meeting expectations, providing feedback and guidance as required.
- Oversight of the various model preparation activities, including Model build (electro/mechanical systems) and Model Shakedown.
- Generate, communicate, and where appropriate implement ideas for improvements to the wind tunnel model, facility, the test and the test capabilities.
- Lead Facility and Operational Development projects as directed by the HOD and in conjunction with the rest of ATF.
- Take part in facility maintenance activities.
- Ensure a high standard of personal and department presentation is maintained.
- Take a leading role towards the company’s Health and Safety policy protecting both the people and the facility from unnecessary risks and damage.
- Manage resources, optimise workflows and account for these via accurate cost cap reporting and the meeting of project deadlines.
- Fostering a culture of accountability, innovation and teamwork.
- Provide guidance for professional development and enhancement to foster a positive change mindset and high performance.
- Establish and agree key performance indicators with the Head of ATF to measure success and impact.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements, incorporating innovation solutions into practice.
- Facilitate communication channels to keep the teams informed and engaged.
- Contribute to the overall ATF strategy collaborating with other team leaders to help maximise the overall effectiveness of the department.
