Every component from chassis to bodywork is crafted with precision, powered by collaboration, and guided by a shared passion for excellence.
Department focus
Within Vehicle Engineering, our teams focus on:
- Chassis, Bodywork & Wings (CBW) — The Chassis, Bodywork and Wings Department develops innovative solutions that deliver performance to our Formula 1 cars. Our team of Design Engineers delivers right 1st time, structurally optimal car parts, directly influencing on-track performance.
- Design Quality — We organise data and documentation, own key processes such as design release checks, and refine processes in partnership with Production Operations.
- Materials — Materials Engineering provides data to enable efficient design, manufacturing and racing, covering new material characterisation, design & manufacturing support, and fault analysis.
- Powertrain — Powertrain Design develops high-performance systems, collaborating with Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Manufacturing and Simulation to design components from concept to prototype.
- Suspension, Steering & Brakes (SSB) — Designs and engineers components such as wishbones, uprights, steering systems and brake assemblies to optimise handling, performance and safety.
- Structures — Drives safe, weight-optimised designs that meet FIA and internal criteria.
- Electronics, Software & Controls — Responsible for electrical/electronic and control systems, sensors and telemetry data; Data Processing develops software for high-quality data analysis.

Role highlights
As a CBW Industrial Placement post-holder, you’ll support the CBW Team to generate advanced, performant and reliable designs, optimise mass and stiffness, and design for manufacture. This is an opportunity to be involved in Formula 1 from an early stage and to work with talented engineers to contribute to a car that competes on the world stage.
As a Design Quality Industrial Placement, you’ll focus on data control, document management, and process improvement, learning how the design office exchanges data with operations.
As a Materials Industrial Placement, you’ll contribute to development and support for exploiting materials technology to enhance performance, including testing programs and failure investigations, with hands-on work in a factory-based environment.
As a Powertrain Industrial Placement, you’ll be immersed in Vehicle Design and contribute to delivering new designs and parts from concept through to prototype, using a range of manufacturing materials.
As a Structures Industrial Placement, you’ll analyse components and assemblies to ensure safety and weight optimisation, contributing across the design process from concepts to detail design.
As a Suspensions, Steering & Brakes Industrial Placement, you’ll work on race-ready designs and assemblies that influence handling and performance, with exposure to multiple disciplines.
As an Electronics, Software & Controls Industrial Placement (Non-Rotational) you’ll contribute to software development for telemetry data analysis and to mechanical design and installation of electrical boxes, gaining exposure across the car.

- Collaborate with engineers and departments to integrate new technologies and optimise performance.
- Support testing, simulation, and documentation to improve processes and outcomes.
- Deliver real engineering solutions that influence car performance on the world stage.
- Produce detailed designs, reports, and data analysis to support manufacturing and trackside operations.
- Take ownership of faults and contribute to continuous improvement across the team.
- Study a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Materials, etc.).
- Demonstrate strong technical foundation, CAD skills, and hands-on project or internship experience.
- Show excellent communication, problem-solving ability and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
