The Systems Engineer for Battery Systems will perform a pivotal role in electrification projects within Williams Grand Prix Technologies. By employing methodologies and expertise from motorsport and Formula 1, WGPT presents a unique opportunity to work with ground-breaking technologies in a number of areas including Aerospace, Motorsport, Marine, Industrial and Off Highway.

This role will bring significant experience in Battery Systems with a particular focus on system architecture, safety and certification requirements and execution. Experience in a variety of markets and industries will be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities:

Generation of requirements at both system and component level for battery modules or full systems.

Creation of DVPs and a test and validation strategy to ensure that requirements are delivered. A specific focus on the requirements for certification (REG.100, UN38.3 as well as relevant marine and aerospace standards) is of particular importance.

Leading colleagues and suppliers in order to ensure that projects are delivered to time and specification whilst contributing to cost, quality and timing decisions.

Oversee system integration and commissioning tasks to ensure that the delivered system meets customer requirements and expectations.

Own the hazard analysis and DFMEA for components and systems as required.

Support the programme team with project and technical reviews so that project milestones are successfully progressed.

Represent WGPT in customer and supplier interactions.

Contribute to or own the battery technology roadmap so that the company is able to integrate with latest technologies and developments within the industry.

About You:

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive engineering, or a related field.

Demonstrable experience within the field of High Voltage battery systems in a number of different markets, including examples of concept to delivery of battery systems.

Expertise in full system integration (not simply cell to module).

A strong understanding of electrical integration (including contactor switching strategies, fusing, thermal management) will be required to excel at this role.

Proven experience with High Voltage systems through all parts of the design lifecycle.

Demonstrated ability to review, analyse and digest architectures, identifying pros, cons and risks associated with presented options.
Desirable Knowledge & Experience:

Hands-on experience with HV Systems during test programmes as well as final, customer sign-off.

Familiarity with requirement capture tools such as DOORS and Polarion.

Knowledge of safety and certification standards associated with a number of industries.
Experience with Test houses with respect to defining and conducting a validation process to support formal certification from an independent body.
