For almost 50 years, Williams Racing has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The British squad boasts 16 F1 World Championship titles to its name. Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport.

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior Design Engineer with knowledge of composite design to join our Suspension, Steering and Brakes (SSB) group here at Williams!

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking and guiding a range of designs from initial concepts through to prototype production.
  • Supporting the Head of Department and Principal Engineer to deliver performance-enhancing technology.
  • Layout design schemes which respect regulatory and structural requirements, packaging, aerodynamics and composite manufacturing techniques.
  • Detailing of parts and assemblies.
  • Calculation work and production of system documentation.
  • Conducting and contributing to design reviews at individual through to whole engineering team level.
  • Adopting end-to-end ownership for projects incorporating manufacture, build, testing and racing, including fault analysis and resolution requiring close collaboration with the wider team.
  • Supporting checking responsibility for detailed drawings, including design review against specification and previous designs.
  • Driving continuous improvement and promoting autonomous creativity to unlock performance.
  • Engaging with development of junior members of the team, mentoring and instilling best practice and a mindset of continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience:

  • An engineering degree or equivalent qualification supported by significant design experience in motorsport, aerospace or a related field.
  • Expertise running and managing end-to-end design projects.
  • Knowledge of composites stress analysis for preliminary sizing.
  • Strong CAD skills, ideally with experience of Siemens NX.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, along with good attention to detail.
  • Great organisational skills and ability to clearly prioritise tasks to agreed deadlines.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
