We are currently recruiting for an experienced Metallic Machinist (Turner) to join our Machine Shop here at Williams Racing. In this role, you will be producing complex components for the Race Car and associated jigs and fixtures on our DMG Mori NLX Lathes. Our department objective is to produce key parts in the most efficient, cost-effective way, maintaining tight delivery deadlines whilst upholding a high standard of work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing high-quality components efficiently to support the development and production of the Formula One race car and external customers.
  • Ensuring components are produced cost-effectively while minimizing lead-times.
  • Collaborating with TPP (Toolpath Programming) on machining issues and suggesting improvements for quality or efficiency.
  • Working proactively with fellow machinists and other departments to establish and utilize best practices.
  • Conducting inspections during machining, verifying first-offs, and ensuring batch consistency.
  • Accurately recording all relevant shop floor data using Data Collection Software as required.
  • Communicating effectively across shifts to ensure smooth handovers and minimal production disruption.
  • Maintaining clear and accurate records for future demand using the designated handover notebook.
  • Sharing ideas for more efficient production with supervisors or team leaders.

Candidate requirements:

  • Proficient in manufacturing metallic and non-metallic components from aircraft-grade metals and high-quality plastics.
  • Strong knowledge of setting and operating Fanuc-controlled Lathes/Turn-Mill machines.
  • Manual and conversational programming skills are advantageous.
  • Ability to manage multiple machines and plan ahead.
  • Relevant apprenticeship or experience in a precision engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated machining expertise in CNC and manual processes within a low-volume, high-accuracy, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, take pride in work, and pay attention to detail.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, team-oriented, and proactive with continuous improvement mindset.
  • Willingness to work extended hours occasionally.
