We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Senior/Development Underwriter to join our team at William Russell.
The role – This is a hands-on role in which an experienced medical underwriter will play a key and influential role in supporting the digital transformation of our underwriting department. The role is diverse and will be extremely interesting for anyone who wants to expand their underwriting knowledge in new and different directions.
Your experience of the digital insurance world will balance with your good, traditional, pragmatic underwriting skills, and high levels of attention to detail, to ensure the company maintains a consistent and considered approach to risk management and mitigation, and meets our commercial objectives, while we continue our digital journey.
About you – You are:
- Self-motivated, able to work on your own initiative and you have integrity.
- Energetic and enthusiastic and have an ability to think clearly, broadly and independently.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage team and personal workloads, and leave comprehensive audit trails.
- Results oriented, with the ability to apply creative, analytical and mathematical skills to problem solving.
Your experience - You have:
- At least 5 years of Underwriting experience, ideally within both the protection and health space, for individuals and groups.
- Experience in developing and maintaining comprehensive internal underwriting guides, including rule design and configuration.
- Demonstrable experience of processing and summarising complex information and communicating accurate and considered decisions to different internal and external audiences.
- A high level of technical knowledge, including insurance, regulatory requirements and legal principles (would be preferable).
- Strong technical Underwriting skills and the ability to assess complex risks.
