North Oxford Garage is a leading automotive dealership, proud to represent premium brands and deliver exceptional service to our customers. We are now seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our Accounts team, reporting directly to the Dealership Accountant.
This is a key role within our finance function, with specific responsibility for the management accounts, including accurate posting of journals and balance sheet reconciliations. We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive individual with solid experience in an Assistant Accountant role.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and reconciliation of balance sheet codes
- Assistance with physical stock take procedures
- Calculating and posting journals into the Dealer Management System
- Posting of accruals and prepayments
- Daily/weekly control of ledger balances, including vehicles, deposits, and cash debtors
- Confirmation of cleared funds and setting up bank payments
- Reconciliation of vehicle stock check to nominal ledger reports
- Providing holiday cover for other accounts functions including bank reconciliations and cash banking
- Vehicle funding reconciliation
- Dealer Composite / IFC preparation
- Posting entries into vehicle stock books and reviewing monthly deal logs
- Administration of internal and manufacturer systems
- Reviewing and running reports as required
- Ad hoc support to the Dealership Accountant
About You
- Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant or in a similar role, ideally within the motor trade (though not essential)
- Strong understanding of accounting processes, reconciliations, and journal postings
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
- Confident user of Excel and financial systems (experience with Dealer Management Systems an advantage)
- Team player with a flexible approach and willingness to provide support across the Accounts function
