A nationally recognised law firm, ranked Tier 1 for its work with public authorities and emergency services, is seeking a Senior Solicitor to join its Police & Public Authority team in Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity to handle complex, high-profile civil claims on behalf of UK police forces and other public sector clients. The work is intellectually challenging and varied, involving false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, assault, misfeasance, Human Rights Act claims, and employer/public liability disputes.
You’ll work alongside highly regarded Partners and senior lawyers, gaining exposure to exceptional quality work while enjoying genuine flexibility, hybrid working and career progression within a top-tier national team.
The Role
- Manage a full caseload of pre-litigated and litigated civil claims against police forces and public authorities
- Handle a mix of false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, assault, trespass, data breach and Human Rights Act claims
- Conduct advocacy where appropriate, attend court hearings and conferences with counsel
- Advise clients on complex liability, quantum and procedural issues
- Support business development initiatives, contribute to client training, and assist in mentoring junior team members
The Candidate
- Qualified Solicitor with 4+ years’ PQE (those outside this range with strong relevant experience are welcome to apply)
- Solid experience in defending civil claims, ideally against police or other public sector bodies
- Excellent knowledge of CPR, litigation procedures and case management
- Exceptional drafting, analytical and communication skills
- Strong commercial awareness and client-handling ability
- Able to work effectively both independently and within a team
