A well‑established international law firm is seeking an Associate / Senior Associate to join its highly regarded Health Litigation team in Liverpool. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high‑value, technically complex clinical negligence defence work, acting for NHS bodies, healthcare providers and other public sector organisations. The team is particularly recognised for its expertise in obstetric and neonatal claims, including serious birth injury cases, offering exposure to nationally significant matters.
You’ll join an experienced and supportive team where you can develop a specialist healthcare litigation practice with strong guidance and clear progression opportunities.
The Role- Reviewing medical and factual evidence and coordinating investigations
- Drafting detailed reports and advising healthcare clients
- Interviewing witnesses and preparing statements
- Instructing medical experts and external counsel
- Attending court hearings, including CMCs, applications and trials
- Supporting settlement negotiations and strategy discussions
- Preparing cases for trial and ADR (mediation and other resolution processes)
- Maintaining strong client relationships and service standards
- Contributing to case strategy alongside senior lawyers
- Qualified Solicitor with up to 9 years' PQE
- Experience in clinical negligence or healthcare litigation (defendant experience preferred but not essential)
- Exposure to NHS Resolution or similar schemes advantageous
- Interest in maternity/obstetric claims highly desirable
- Strong litigation, drafting and analytical skills
- Confident managing complex, high‑value cases independently
- Strong understanding of client service expectations and KPIs
- Excellent communication and attention to detail
- Willingness to support and mentor junior colleagues
- Salary up to £60,000 depending on experience
