Job Description
Civil Fraud Associate
The Role
William James Recruitment is instructed by a leading UK commercial law firm seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join its highly regarded and fast-growing Cross-Border Disputes practice, based primarily in London.
The firm is a nationally recognised, Top 50 practice with a strong international footprint and a reputation for delivering solutions-driven, commercial legal advice through an integrated, partner-led model. Its disputes offering has grown significantly in recent years and is now regarded as one of the most ambitious and exciting platforms in the market.
The Cross-Border Disputes team focuses on high-value, complex international litigation and arbitration. Current mandates include substantial asset recovery claims, fraud disputes and investor/state matters with a strong international dimension. Clients include private equity-backed businesses, high-net-worth individuals and overseas governments, providing global exposure without the heavy conflicts typically associated with Magic or Silver Circle firms.
This is a pivotal hire within the team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing day-to-day matters, supervising junior lawyers and taking real ownership of client relationships, while working closely with senior leadership on strategy and business development.
The role offers exposure to international work, including limited overseas travel (approximately 2–3 weeks per year), and a clearly defined pathway to partnership within a genuinely growth-oriented practice.
The Candidate
- Associate or Senior Associate with strong experience in fraud-related disputes
- Background in contentious insolvency and/or international arbitration would be advantageous
- Strong academic credentials
- Ability to manage complex matters and supervise junior team members
- Excellent communication and client-handling skills
- Commercially minded with an interest in business development
- Ambitious, self-motivated and keen to be part of a growing practice
Why This Opportunity
- Boutique-style disputes practice within a well-resourced national firm
- Exposure to market-leading, high-value international cases
- Clear and transparent route to partnership, with flexible equity arrangements
- Competitive remuneration and benefits
- Sensible billable hours target (c.1500) and a genuinely non-hierarchical, collaborative culture
- Excellent training, early responsibility and meaningful involvement in BD
