A well-established national law firm is seeking a Costs Solicitor / Draftsperson to join its respected Costs & Advocacy team in Birmingham. The department handles a wide range of commercial and personal injury litigation costs matters, from fixed recoverable costs and lower value disputes through to complex, high value cases. This is an excellent opportunity for a Costs Solicitor / Draftsperson looking to take the next step into a varied role combining technical drafting, negotiation and advocacy in Birmingham.
The Role
- Handle costs files from instruction through to resolution
- Draft and review Costs Budgets, Bills of Costs, Points of Dispute and Replies
- Advise on budgeting, recovery, reserving and dispute strategy
- Attend CCMCs and application hearings
- Provide advocacy where required
- Negotiate settlements and costs agreements
- Deliver clear, commercially focused advice to clients and colleagues
- Work closely with experienced costs and litigation professionals
This role offers strong exposure to both technical costs work and advocacy.
About You
- Minimum 3 years' experience in legal costs litigation
- Qualified Costs Lawyer (preferred)
- Experience acting for both Claimant and Defendant clients
- Confident in advocacy, including CCMCs and hearings
- Strong drafting skills across all key costs documentation
- Able to manage a varied caseload independently
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Organised, proactive and deadline-focused
