We’re looking for a technically strong and commercially aware Assistant Financial Controller to join our finance team at Belazu. This role is all about ownership - leading month-end, strengthening controls, improving processes, and delivering clear financial insight to support business performance. If you’re a qualified accountant with FMCG experience who enjoys both detail and impact, this could be a brilliant next step.
This is a lovely opportunity to join a business with an impressive set of accreditations, from B Corp status to silver standard Investors in People, and recognised in 2025 as a Sunday Times Best Place to Work. We are a diverse team with a shared set of professional goals and social values that drive a hugely satisfying working experience. Belazu has been a pioneer of supplying high-quality Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ingredients to the UK for over 30 years. We are ambitious, values-led, and continuously improving - and we’re looking for people who want to grow with us.
What the day job looks like: As Assistant Financial Controller, you will:
- Lead the month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and group reporting submissions.
- Produce clear management reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analysis).
- Own CAPEX reporting and support tax/VAT submissions in coordination with Group.
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning cycles.
- Provide working capital and cash flow analysis to improve liquidity.
- Partner with operational teams to deliver insight and financial modelling.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Manage, mentor and motivate the transactional finance team.
- Drive process improvements and transformation initiatives.
This role will suit you if:
- You’re a qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA or similar).
- You’ve previously worked as an Assistant FC or in a similar senior finance role.
- You have experience in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
- You’re confident with financial systems, Power BI and advanced Excel.
- You enjoy improving processes and building strong financial controls.
- You’re comfortable influencing senior stakeholders and explaining financial performance clearly.
- You’ve managed or supported a team before.
This role may not be for you if:
- You prefer purely transactional finance with no strategic involvement.
- You’re not comfortable leading month-end or managing audits.
- You struggle to balance accuracy with pace in a demanding environment.
- You’re not confident working cross-functionally with non-finance teams.
What’s in it for you?
- 25 days annual plus 8 public holidays per annum, increasing with service.
- Auto-Enrolment Pension.
- Life assurance.
- Discretionary annual bonus scheme.
- Learning and development opportunities.
- Cycle to work scheme.
- Access to Employee Benefits Portal (GP, financial tools, retail discounts).
- Volunteer days and CSR programme.
- Free on-site parking.
- Up to 40% discount on Company products.
- Subsidised canteen with incredible food.
Terms: 40 hrs/week, 8am–4.30pm Mon–Fri (flexible start times available). Hybrid working (office + WFH). Probationary period: 3 months. Annual salary review (our ‘movers and shakers’ are always rewarded). 15% KPI-related bonus.
