Not only will you receive fully funded qualifications, you will get real-world, hands-on experience of working in an aerospace engineering environment.

As an Apprentice Aircraft Fitter, you will develop the high level of skill and knowledge required to carry out maintenance, repairs and modifications to a variety of aircraft, safely, on time and within budget. The role has a very high level of quality control to maintain the aircraft safely and to regulatory standards. You will gain a developed understanding of Marshall processes and procedures to be compliant with these standards.

As an Apprentice - Aircraft Fitter working in our Military Aerospace business you will follow the Level 3 Aircraft Maintenance Apprenticeship Standard. More information on this standard can be found on the Institute for Apprenticeships website.

You Will Gain The Following Qualifications During The Programme:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Aircraft maintenance (Civil Aircraft Mechanical)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Aviation Maintenance (Development Competence)

You will work towards developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required through a range of workshop training, classroom sessions and on the job learning. You will develop technical skills and the behaviours needed to set the foundation for your future career. You will be supported by instructors, mentors, line managers and fellow apprentices.

Some of your responsibilities as an Apprentice Aircraft Fitter will include:

  • Attending and engaging with training, including exams and 1-2-1 meetings with tutors/assessors.
  • Managing your time effectively to complete all coursework, assignments and exams required to achieve the apprenticeship.
  • Reflecting on your own practice and experiences and taking feedback onboard.
  • Scheduled aircraft maintenance and servicing.
  • Unscheduled aircraft maintenance including defect rectification to aircraft systems and components.
  • Repairs to airframe structures.
  • All levels of modifications to aircraft structures, systems and interiors.
  • Related duties, including operation of ground equipment, assistance in aircraft movements and aircraft delivery.

Entry requirements:

You must have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Mathematics, English Language and Science. You must not have already completed the level 2 and 3 qualifications listed above in the apprenticeship section. In order to receive apprenticeship funding you must have the right to work in the UK and meet residency eligibility requirements.

Please note that assessment centres for this role will be held towards the end of March 2026. Apprenticeships will begin in September 2026. You must successfully pass all required medical and security checks if you are offered a place on the apprenticeship programme.
