As part of our growth, we are looking to appoint a Project Estimator who can support the commercial and pre‑construction process, help build accurate and competitive estimates, and work closely with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to produce high‑quality submissions. This role is ideal for someone with a strong construction mindset and a practical understanding of how projects are delivered. We are also open to hearing from junior estimators or individuals earlier in their career who are eager to learn, develop, and grow with the business.

The Role

The Project Estimator will play an important role in supporting the pricing, planning, and commercial preparation of projects. You will be responsible for helping to compile detailed costings, engaging with the supply chain, issuing enquiries, obtaining quotations, reviewing project information, and ensuring estimates are prepared accurately and efficiently for internal approval. A key part of this role will involve using William Hynes Energistics’ in‑house costing and calculation software, designed to support project calculations and improve estimating accuracy. You will be expected to use this system confidently, alongside traditional estimating methods, to help build robust and competitive project submissions. You will work closely with management, suppliers, subcontractors, and other departments to ensure tenders and project estimates are commercially sound, well presented, and aligned with operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and well‑structured project estimates for solar farm and construction‑related works.
• Use the company’s internal estimating and project calculation software to develop cost plans, pricing schedules, and project calculations.
• Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and supporting project information.
• Send out and manage RFPs, RFIs, and other pre‑construction enquiries to suppliers, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
• Obtain, compare, and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure best value and compliance with project requirements.
• Assist with issuing PQQs and supporting the onboarding and review of new subcontractors and supply chain partners.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to clarify scope, pricing, lead times, qualifications, and technical inclusions.
• Build up rates and pricing for labour, plant, materials, subcontract packages, logistics, and associated construction costs.
• Identify missing information, scope gaps, commercial risks, and pricing assumptions during the estimating process.
• Work closely with the wider team to ensure estimates are submitted for review and approval in line with internal procedures.
• Support value engineering exercises and help identify cost‑saving opportunities without compromising quality or delivery.
• Maintain organised records of quotations, assumptions, clarifications, and pricing submissions.
• Assist in preparing tender summaries, cost breakdowns, and internal commercial reports.
• Support handover from estimating to delivery teams once projects are secured.
• Help maintain and improve internal pricing databases, supplier lists, and cost libraries.
• Contribute to the ongoing refinement and development of the company’s estimating systems and processes.
• Engage positively with the wider team and contribute to the growth of a high‑performing commercial and pre‑construction function.

Experience

• Experience within an estimating, commercial, or construction‑related role.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, project delivery, and how project costs are built up.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, scopes, and technical project information.
• Experience obtaining prices from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Good communication skills and confidence when speaking with external supply chain partners.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines.
• Good numerical ability and attention to detail.
• Competent with Microsoft Excel and general computer systems.
• Professional, proactive, and willing to take responsibility for your work.
• A strong work ethic and the desire to grow within a fast‑paced business.
• Experience within solar farm construction, civil engineering, utilities, or wider infrastructure projects.
• Previous experience issuing and managing RFPs, RFIs, and PQQs.
• Exposure to subcontractor procurement and supply chain engagement.
• Experience using estimating tools, pricing software, or internal cost calculators.
• Understanding of labour, plant, materials, preliminaries, and subcontract package pricing.
• Knowledge of renewable energy projects and utility‑scale construction.
• A background in civils, electrical, mechanical, or infrastructure estimating.
