We are seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join our team at HQ in Brandlesholme, Bury to provide a customer focused, comprehensive and generalist Human Resources service to Managers and employees at our Production facilities in Bury, Scarborough, Rotherham, Grantham and Risca. The HR Advisor will work closely with line managers and employees and will have the professional experience and credibility to provide pragmatic and consistent advice on all staff issues.
Working 36 hours a week / Monday to Friday / 3 days in the office & 2 from home / Early afternoon finish on a Friday.
What is the role all about?
- Act as a trusted advisor to all facility management teams on all HR matters including structure, performance, and workforce planning.
- Support the Head of HR & Training to provide an effective recruitment service to production teams, ensuring all new recruits have the correct legal right to work in the UK.
- Oversee all employee relations cases, providing expert advice and ensuring consistent and legally compliant outcomes, including support from investigation to appeal stage.
- Provide advice to employees and managers on family friendly policies and procedures, supporting as required on the administration of maternity, paternity, adoption, and other leave.
- Monitor probation periods liaising with line managers regarding reviews, ensuring confirmation of successful completion of probation periods and advising line managers on how to deal with any issues arising during the probationary period.
- Provide first line advice, support and guidance on employee sickness absence entitlements and information, especially where it triggers welfare meetings.
- Attend absence meetings with line managers, escalating welfare concerns to the Head of HR & Training and appropriate senior manager.
- Partner with the HR Co-ordinators to manage contractual changes, liaising with line managers and supporting the issuing of change confirmations and obtaining written agreements.
- Coordinate the Occupational Health Programme across the business.
- Promote employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives, supporting a positive and inclusive culture.
- Lead the CSR Committee, managing the annual budget fairly and equally and encouraging employee involvement.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and processes are followed in line with company policy and UK employment law.
What are we looking for:
- Min of HND qualified or equivalent with a Level 5 CIPD qualification.
- Reasonable level of generalist HR experience ideally from a unionised business.
- Previous experience of working in manufacturing and/or heavy engineering environment is essential.
- Understanding of GDPR; discretion is essential due to confidential nature of information being handled.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office package, particularly Word and Excel.
- Proactive approach to role, self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy or as part of a team.
- Ability and willingness to have difficult conversations with a view to achieving positive outcomes.
- Organised, analytical and detail focussed approach to work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion.
- Handle emotive issues with sensitivity, applying knowledge and judgement to identify a constructive path forward.
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively, diplomatically and robustly at all levels and with a wide range of personalities.
- Adaptable to prioritise, work to deadlines and meet the changing demands of the role.
- Enthusiastic, proactive and self-reliant – 'can do' attitude.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Some travel to other manufacturing facilities (Bury, Scarborough, Rotherham, Grantham and Risca) with support to dayshift & nightshift is a requirement of this role.
