About the Role
As a Programme Manager in Business at William College, you will provide strategic and operational leadership in the delivery, development, and quality assurance of academic programmes. You will be responsible for maintaining academic standards, ensuring the integrity of teaching and assessment practices, and driving continuous enhancement across the programme. In this role, you will oversee teaching teams, manage academic workloads, and coordinate feedback and evaluation processes to ensure a high-quality student learning experience. You will act as the main liaison with the partner university, ensuring alignment with definitive programme documentation and external academic requirements. Your leadership will support student success, promote academic excellence, and contribute to institutional goals around retention, continuation, and completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Academic Leadership & Quality Assurance
- Ensure strict adherence to definitive programme documentation, programme specifications, and partner university regulations.
- Lead the standardisation and quality assurance of teaching, learning, and assessment materials across modules.
- Carry out academic enhancement activities including module reviews, curriculum updates, and alignment with sector best practice.
- Produce course evaluation reports and contribute to annual programme monitoring in line with internal and partner university requirements.
- Ensure student feedback is systematically reviewed and implemented to drive continuous programme enhancement.
- Contribute to improving and maintaining student continuation, retention, and completion rates.
- Lead the academic team delivering the programme, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and academic consistency.
- Elect and appoint Year and Module Leaders periodically to support leadership at the delivery level.
- Maintain and allocate teaching and assessment workloads in line with the Contribution Workload Model.
- Implement and encourage best practices in teaching through structured peer observation and mentoring processes.
- Support the development of high-quality module content, learning resources, and assessment tools.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the programme with the partner university, ensuring alignment on quality, compliance, and academic delivery.
- Coordinate the timely and accurate delivery of academic content, assessments, and feedback in accordance with awarding body and institutional policies.
- Monitor student academic engagement and progression, identifying at-risk students and supporting timely interventions in collaboration with support teams.
- Lead and contribute to programme governance processes, including academic boards, programme committees, and review panels.
- Ensure academic teams are fully briefed on institutional and partner university academic standards, regulatory requirements, and updates.
- Maintain accurate academic records, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external data protection legislation.

You are a committed academic leader with strong experience in programme management and a deep understanding of higher education quality frameworks. You combine strategic oversight with attention to operational detail and bring a collaborative, student-focused approach to academic delivery. You are confident working across academic and professional services teams, and able to manage multiple priorities including teaching quality, student experience, compliance, and team leadership.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proven experience in managing academic programmes, modules, or teaching teams in a higher education environment.
- In-depth understanding of academic quality assurance processes, including programme monitoring, evaluation, and enhancement.
- Experience developing or standardising teaching and assessment materials.
- Strong leadership skills, including experience managing or allocating academic workloads.
- Familiarity with UK HE regulatory bodies (e.g., OfS, QAA) and partner university frameworks.
- Ability to lead academic meetings, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and respond to feedback constructively.
- Experience coordinating peer observation, academic mentoring, or staff development initiatives.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to produce high-quality documentation and reports.
- Experience liaising with external academic partners or validating institutions.
- Familiarity with student data systems, learning platforms (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard), and teaching technologies.
- Knowledge of strategies to improve student engagement, retention, and completion.
- Experience supporting curriculum development or academic enhancement projects.
- A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, FHEA) or evidence of scholarly engagement.
