William Blair’s Secondary Advisory team of experts provide financial sponsors and their investors with holistic, bespoke solutions across all stages of the private equity lifecycle. The private equity community relies on us for premier guidance and expertise when navigating GP‑led transactions (single-asset and multi‑asset continuation vehicles, fund restructurings & recapitalizations, spin‑outs & spin‑ins, portfolio company shareholder liquidity solutions, strip sales, and tender offers) and LP‑led transactions.

An Analyst in a GP‑Led Secondaries role will perform extensive research and execute in‑depth analyses to support new business development, transaction execution and the delivery of private market products and services to sponsor clients and prospects, as well as limited partners.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Build bottom‑up three statement and LBO financial models to evaluate potential and actual client outcomes, utilizing core valuation methods.
  • Integrate outputs with fund‑level analysis (e.g., GP / LP distributions, fund waterfalls).
  • Effectively synthesize information to convey complex financial modeling outcomes.
  • Demonstrate curiosity of the various private market strategies.
  • Assimilate information to perform insightful analyses.
  • Assist in the development, production and delivery of proposals and presentations to clients and prospects.
  • Perform due diligence, research, financial analysis, and documentation of potential and live transactions.
  • Take ownership of all deal admin related tasks, such as maintaining deal trackers, scheduling buyer calls, and updating Salesforce.
  • Actively participate in client meetings and internal discussions.
  • Anticipate potential deal issues and pass concerns through to team members in real time.
  • Manage transaction process, include investor tracking and client communications.
  • Partner with more senior‑level team members in the development of marketing materials that highlight the competitive advantage of William Blair Private Capital Advisory.
  • Take ownership of buyer dialogue communications, which includes taking thorough notes on buyer calls, managing incoming emails, and sending follow‑up notes when appropriate.
  • Mentor summer interns and invest in teaching subsequent classes of analysts, imparting best practices.

Qualifications and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Prior experience (including internships) in investment banking, private equity or Big 4 transaction services required; previous experience as an Analyst, or equivalent preferred
  • Profound understanding of corporate finance and accounting concepts paired with strong understanding of core valuation methodologies, including public and precedent transaction comparables
  • Excellent work ethic and genuine curiosity for private markets transactions
  • Sound judgement, coachability, and ability to balance assertiveness with open‑mindedness as required
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical abilities and critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to manage expectations of senior bankers while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Commitment to satisfying internal and external customers
