We are recruiting for an Environmental Chargehand; the role is to ensure the day-to-day operation of waste management is completed to the desired standard both effectively and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee a team of environmental operatives to ensure waste streams are operational throughout the business and that the required standard of housekeeping is maintained.
• Ensure waste is segregated and recycled where possible in the pre-determined recycling and general waste areas.
• Oversee the operation of the environmental waste equipment ensuring training and risk assessments are delivered.
• Oversee the day-to-day operation of the biomass boiler to ensure optimum efficiency, reporting any issues to the Head of Health, Safety & Environmental.
• Be the point of contact for waste contractors to safely remove waste from site.
• Audit the environmental operatives to maintain the standards required.
• Documentation control (especially waste notes)
• Follow the EA hierarchy of waste control and make continuous improvements whilst being able to demonstrate historical improvements. (Reducing waste at the source, reuse of materials, recycling, energy recovery, and landfilling.)
Essential
• Understanding of environmental waste regulations (Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011) and waste classifications (ie WEEE - contaminated - Hazardous - clinical)
• Counterbalance Forklift Truck License
• Powered Pallet Truck License
• Experience of overseeing a team
• Core IT skills such as Microsoft office
• Ability to self-manage and be proactive
• Confident communicator and display energy and enthusiasm
