Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship in Coventry

The Opportunity: To support classroom teachers with their responsibility for the development and education process by providing care and supervision to children/young people, including those who have special physical, emotional, social, communication and educational needs and those that require 1:1 support. You’ll be working in a vibrant 'child-centred' learning community that is part of a family of schools in Finham Park Multi Academy Trust. What You’ll Do:

• Supervise and support the teaching activities of individuals or groups of children/young people to ensure their safety and facilitate their physical and emotional development.
• Monitor individual pupil’s progress, achievements, problems, condition and development needs reporting to the responsible teacher as appropriate.
• Assist the teacher in the development, delivery and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care Programmes for individuals or groups of children.
• Prepare and deliver programmes to support Special Needs, one-to-one tuition, interventions etc following the guidelines and training given under the guidance of the teacher.
• Assist the teacher with the planning of learning activities in the classroom or designated areas preparing or modifying work for individuals or groups of pupils as directed.
• Use strategies in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
• Provide support for local and national learning strategies e.g. English, Mathematics, and Early Years.
• Assist with the implementation of programmes designed by other professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language therapists.
• Work 1:1 with children with special physical, emotional, social, communication and educational needs.
• Assist the teacher with the administration of baseline/tests and other assessments.
• Support the use of computing in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use.
• Prepare and maintain equipment and teaching resources for lessons and activities including the control of stock within the classroom.
• Prepare/clear classroom as directed before and after lessons, including the preparation of visual aids, and the display and presentation of pupil’s work.
• Participate in personal and professional development activities to meet the changing demands of the job and encourage and support other staff in their development and training.
• Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
• Undertake playground duties as part of a rota.
• Undertaking any other duties reasonably required.

What They’re Looking For:

• Must have GCSE Maths and English grade 4+
• Confident in building and maintaining relationships with young children
• Works well with other people
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks set
• Able to work using own initiative
• Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written form
• Demonstrates competence in numeracy and literacy.

Working Hours: 35 hours per week, term time plus one week

Pay: Apprentice pay scale, £8 per hour for the first 12 months followed by national minimum wage for your age.

Training to be provided: Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard, 15 months plus up to 8 weeks for end point assessment.

Future Prospects: Possible full-time employment upon completion of the apprenticeship.
