Help people live well with a life-limiting illness

We’re looking for a skilled and compassionate physiotherapist to join Willen Hospice as a Specialist Physiotherapist in our Therapeutic and Wellbeing team. You’ll provide rehabilitation and wellbeing support to patients and their carers on our In-Patient Unit and in the Wellbeing Centre, working with people living with cancer, long-term neurological conditions and other progressive illnesses.

As part of our multidisciplinary team (MDT), you’ll champion a rehabilitative approach to palliative care, with a strong focus on physical activity, independence and helping people achieve the goals that matter most to them.

If you want to use your specialist skills to make a lasting difference to people’s quality of life, and you’d value working in a person-centred team that has the time to do things properly, this could be the role for you.

What you’ll do:

  • Carry out specialist assessments and develop dynamic treatment plans for patients with complex needs.

  • Deliver one-to-one and group rehabilitation focused on maximising function, independence and engagement with life.

  • Work with the MDT, patients and carers to agree goals and care plans, prepare for discharge and refer on to community services.

  • Support and educate carers, sharing difficult information with tact and empathy.

  • Supervise allied health professional (AHP) and physiotherapy students, and delegate tasks to our Therapies Assistant Practitioner.

  • Contribute to teaching, audit and research that develop rehabilitative palliative care at the Hospice.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A physiotherapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with a degree or equivalent qualification.

  • Experienced in assessing and treating people with complex, long-term or progressive conditions.

  • An excellent communicator, confident supporting patients and families through emotionally difficult conversations.

  • Well organised and able to manage a varied caseload, including working independently as a lone worker.

Experience in a hospice or specialist palliative care setting would be advantageous. Postgraduate training in palliative care, oncology or neurology, would also be an advantage. Just as important is your approach: compassionate, person-centred and focused on helping people live well.

This appointment is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
