About the role:
Fixed Term for 12 months, commencing 5th August 2026. Salary in line with national pay scale for Resident Doctors, negotiable depending on experience.
This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join our established medical team, who provide the highest quality of Specialist Palliative Medicine across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area. You would join our current team which includes one Consultant, two GPs with specialist interest, a Hospice Doctor, two GP VTS trainees and a FY2 doctor – in what is a developing and expanding service.
The role would involve providing support to the Hospice In-Patient unit (15 beds) and our community palliative care team ‘Willen at Home’, providing palliative care support to adults with life‑limiting illness across Milton Keynes. This role will require you to work as part of the Hospice’s experienced multi‑professional team, and you would have the opportunity to develop experience across all our services.
This post is fixed‑term for 12 months, but there is potential to make this permanent. The post is full time and includes a 1:4 weekend commitment covering the hospice Inpatient Unit. This forms part of the planned activities in the full shift rota: there is no out of hours on call commitment.
It would be ideally suited for a doctor who has completed Foundation Training and wishes to seek further experience/a career in palliative medicine. The successful candidate will have full GMC registration with licence to practice, have completed Foundation Training and have broad experience working within the NHS and other healthcare settings, including community settings. Good communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and experience in both general medicine and palliative medicine are essential for this post.
Willen Hospice takes an active role in education and the successful applicant would be expected to contribute to education within the medical team, provide education and supervision to medical students on hospice placement and take a role in the Hospice’s wider educational provision. As such, experience in teaching is highly desirable.

Willen Hospice is situated in a beautiful lakeside area close to the centre of Milton Keynes. The Hospice is the leading provider of specialist palliative care within the area. In addition to our 15 bed In-Patient unit and Community Palliative Care Team (Willen at Home and the Hub), we have an expanding Therapeutic & Wellbeing service offering Psychological Wellbeing, Social Care, Physiotherapy, Complementary Therapy and Spiritual Care. The hospice medical team provides specialist medical care and advice to all these areas and has a close working relationship with Milton Keynes University Hospital.
