We’re recruiting for a Maintenance Engineer / Maintenance Technician to join a leading food manufacturing business based in Newport, Shropshire.

This is a permanent opportunity offering a salary of £45,000 – £54,000, working a 4 on 4 off rotating shift pattern of 2 days followed by 2 nights.

You’ll join the site Engineering team and be responsible for keeping production machinery and equipment running effectively through planned maintenance, fault finding, breakdown support and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and preventative maintenance (PPM) to agreed schedules.
  • Diagnose, fault-find, repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Respond to machinery breakdowns and carry out repairs to minimise production downtime.
  • Identify machinery and component defects or signs of impending failure.
  • Record maintenance activity accurately using the CMMS system.
  • Use CMMS history to identify opportunities for reliability and maintenance improvements.
  • Support root cause analysis and 5 Why problem-solving.
  • Work with OEMs and external suppliers when additional technical support or replacement parts are required.
  • Identify and implement engineering and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure effective communication and handovers between shifts.
  • Complete all required maintenance, PPM and quality documentation.
  • Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, housekeeping and 5S.

The original specification places particular emphasis on PPM, mechanical/electrical fault finding, CMMS usage and shift-based problem solving.

About You

We’re looking for someone with previous experience working within a maintenance engineering environment, ideally within manufacturing or a similar fast-paced production setting.

You should have:

  • A recognised Engineering Apprenticeship, ONC, HNC or equivalent qualification in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline; or
  • A minimum Level 3 City & Guilds qualification with at least 5 years' experience in a similar industry.
  • Previous maintenance engineering experience.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding ability.
  • Experience working with CMMS systems.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to prioritise your workload and work effectively under pressure.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
