We’re supporting our client, a global, leading injection moulding company based in Wellingborough, who are looking for a Tool Designer to join their growing team. The successful Tool Designer will have previous experience in mould tool design, as well as engineering and polymer knowledge.
Job Summary: As a Tool Designer, you will be responsible for the design and development of mould tools ranging from 0.5t to 3.5t, working with a variety of materials and technologies. The role involves both new design and redesign work, as well as troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities for Tool Designer:
- Design mould tools using SolidWorks and VISI CAD
- Work with materials including Ali, P20, and H13 steels
- Develop unscrewing, complex, and standard mould tooling
- Conduct Moldflow analysis and DFM (Design for Manufacture)
- Produce DFM reports for customers and internal use
- Support tool costing (desirable)
- Troubleshoot tooling and resolve design/manufacturing issues
- Carry out CAD modelling, redesign, and optimisation work
About You:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mould tool design
- Strong engineering and polymer knowledge
- Proven experience with CAD design and modelling
- Experience working with complex moulds
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve effectively
- 3D printing experience is desirable
- Tool costing experience is desirable
