We’re supporting our client, a global, leading manufacturer based in Stourbridge, who are looking to appoint a Design Engineer to strengthen their growing engineering team. This role is heavily design-led and would suit an engineer who enjoys developing bespoke technical solutions, producing high-quality drawings, and supporting projects from concept through to manufacture.

Job Summary: As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering engineered design solutions for customer and internal projects. You’ll be responsible for transforming technical requirements into robust, practical designs, producing detailed drawings and documentation, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are delivered accurately, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, hands-on manufacturing environment where engineering design is central to the business.

Responsibilities for Design Engineer:

  • Produce bespoke engineering design solutions in line with customer and project requirements
  • Develop detailed technical drawings, layouts, and documentation to agreed standards
  • Support projects from initial concept through design, manufacture, and delivery
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant engineering, quality, and compliance standards
  • Liaise with production, quality, and project teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
  • Review and update design documentation in line with engineering changes
  • Identify and manage design risks, escalating issues where necessary
  • Maintain accurate design records and documentation within company systems
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards
  • Support other departments with technical input where required

About You:

  • Recognised engineering qualification (Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent)
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a design engineering role within a manufacturing or project-based environment
  • Strong proficiency in engineering design and technical drawing (2D and/or 3D CAD)
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles
  • High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and engineering standards
  • Organised, able to manage multiple design tasks simultaneously
  • Confident communicator, able to work effectively with internal teams
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and keen to develop technically
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working in a small business environment
