W&A is supporting an innovation-led organisation in Edinburgh to appoint a Senior Finance Lead who will play a key role across venture investment and technology commercialisation. This is an 18-month fixed-term contract offering a hybrid approach: Edinburgh-based candidates would ideally spend around three days per week in the office, while candidates based further afield who can attend less frequently will also be considered.

The Opportunity

This is a distinctive, dual-focused corporate finance opportunity offering exposure to both venture capital and the commercialisation of cutting-edge innovation. You'll take ownership of key finance activity for an active venture investment portfolio while also providing post-deal financial support across a high-value technology licensing portfolio. The remit combines technical accounting, valuation, commercial analysis, financial control and strategic insight, with the opportunity to work closely with investment, technology transfer and finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead valuation reporting and fair value analysis across an active portfolio of early-stage companies.
  • Support statutory compliance, financial reporting and the continued development of robust finance data and systems.
  • Provide post-deal finance support for technology transfer and licensing activity, including commercial financial analysis.
  • Undertake royalty audits and financial risk evaluations across a high-value licensing portfolio.
  • Deliver performance analysis and clear, insightful reporting to support effective decision-making.
  • Provide strategic financial insight and collaborate with colleagues across investment, commercialisation and wider finance teams.
  • Depending on experience and capability, take on line management responsibilities.

Candidate Profile

  • A professionally qualified accountant.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK GAAP, particularly FRS 102, together with an understanding of relevant valuation guidance.
  • Experience of fair value valuation analysis, ideally involving early-stage, venture-backed or growth businesses.
  • A track record of producing meaningful performance analysis and management information that supports decision-making.
  • Strong commercial judgement, with the confidence to assess financial risk and translate complex information into practical insight.
  • A collaborative, proactive and delivery-focused approach, with the ability to build trusted relationships across different stakeholder groups.
