W&A are delighted to be partnering with a hugely exciting business based near St Andrews as they look to hire a Company Accountant to join their finance team.

Supporting both the Finance Director and Financial Controller, the Company Accountant will take on a broad remit spanning financial and management accounting, business partnering, budgeting and forecasting, financial controls and support for the transactional finance team.

Despite the breadth of the position, the business can accommodate someone stepping up into the role who is keen to develop their skill set within a motivated, collaborative environment.

The Opportunity

Working closely with senior finance leadership and stakeholders across the organisation, you will support high-quality reporting and analysis, help strengthen processes and controls, contribute to budgeting and forecasting activity, and provide commercially focused financial insight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Finance Director and Financial Controller across financial and management accounting activities.
  • Assist with monthly management reporting, including commentary, variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support annual budgeting, multi-year forecasting and wider financial planning across the business.
  • Support with financial planning, annual budgeting, and multiyear forecasting (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow).
  • Work with Managers and Directors on measurable financial objectives and KPIs for each business unit; challenge assumptions and optimise ROI across Capex and Opex.
  • Drive continuous improvement in margin, cash generation and productivity; provide scenario planning and sensitivity analysis for strategic decisions.
  • Contribute to cash flow management, working capital oversight and treasury activity.
  • Provide financial insight and business partnering support to operational managers and senior stakeholders.
  • Support statutory accounts preparation, audit requirements and compliance with relevant UK accounting and tax obligations.
  • Maintain and strengthen financial controls, policies, reconciliations and reporting processes.
  • Support project and capital expenditure reporting, including monitoring spend and associated financial commitments.
  • Assist with the development of finance systems, reporting tools, automation and process improvements.
  • Support Finance Assistants within the team, sharing knowledge and helping maintain high standards across transactional finance.
  • Build effective relationships with external auditors, advisers, banking partners and other key stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

  • Fully qualified accountant or Qualified by Experience.
  • Newly qualified accountants looking to make a move from practice into industry can also be considered.
  • Must be enthusiastic, motivated to learn, develop and form part of Team supporting a growing business.
  • A collaborative team player who wants to contribute to and support a growing business.
  • Confident communicating financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Analytical, detail-focused and comfortable taking a hands-on approach when required.
  • Proactive and improvement-minded, with an interest in strengthening systems, processes and ways of working.

This is a broad role but does not require a candidate who can cover all of aspects of the position from day 1. This role can accommodate someone who is looking to take a step up to broaden their experience within a rapidly growing SME.
