About the Role

The Senior Specialist, Portfolio Strategy provides analytical, operational, and administrative support to the Portfolio Strategy team, who are responsible for developing the financial targets, publishing policies and development frameworks to enable the continued growth of our Research Publishing business.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide support for strategic initiatives, including coordinating input, tracking actions, scheduling follow-ups, and maintaining project materials and timelines.
  • Collect and consolidate information from internal and external stakeholders to support the development and delivery of portfolio strategies and strategic growth plans.
  • Support the preparation of portfolio analyses, targets, models, and roadmaps by gathering, organising, and maintaining data across journals, subject areas, and business models.
  • Support workflows and processes that help ensure plans, policies, and frameworks are implemented consistently across the research publishing portfolio.
  • Help maintain accurate documentation, reporting files, and team resources that support planning, communication, and continuity across the team’s work.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or above.
  • Some experience in academic publishing.

  • Good strategic thinker – capable of both macro and micro views.
  • Can turn big picture into portfolio level impact.
  • Experience coordinating projects or workstreams with multiple contributors and deadlines.
  • Ability to organise complex information and translate it into clear, structured outputs.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and draw clear conclusions.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with confidence working across standard business tools.
  • Experience in using AI tools (Copilot, Claude) to increase efficiencies in own and team work.

Interpersonal And Communication Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders across functions and levels of seniority.
  • Good judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications/skills

  • Knowledge of the scholarly communications landscape, including open access models, society publishing, or journal portfolio management.
  • Experience working in a matrixed, international, or cross-functional organisation.

Salary Range: 29,300 GBP to 40,900 GBP
