About The Role

We’re looking for a strategic, insight driven marketer to lead high impact marketing across a portfolio of leading Life Sciences journals acting as a trusted marketing partner to learned societies, delivering collaborative strategies that drive long term portfolio performance.

Job Summary

As Senior Marketing Manager, you will lead the strategic marketing direction for a large portfolio of owned, joint owned and high value society owned Life Sciences journals. You will develop and own customer focused, data driven go to market strategies that support submissions growth, open access revenue, readership and long term portfolio performance. Working in a complex matrix environment, you will partner closely with Product, senior editorial colleagues and learned society executives to align marketing strategy with editorial and commercial priorities. A core focus of the role is building and sustaining trusted society partnerships, with clear accountability for society satisfaction, retention and support of renewal and RFP processes. You will combine strategic thinking with operational agility, using market intelligence and performance insight to adapt plans and maximise impact across the portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic marketing direction for a portfolio of high value Life Sciences journals, developing data driven go to market strategies aligned to editorial, commercial and society priorities.
  • Build, maintain and strengthen senior level relationships with learned society partners, acting as a trusted marketing advisor and supporting society satisfaction, retention and renewal activity.
  • Develop clear portfolio positioning, messaging and value propositions informed by market dynamics, competitive landscapes and researcher behaviour.
  • Own the operational delivery of agreed marketing plans, translating strategy into clear briefs and working with shared service and specialist teams to ensure high quality execution.
  • Use performance data, insight and feedback to evaluate effectiveness, optimise ongoing activity and inform future planning cycles.
  • Represent marketing in society strategy discussions, partnership meetings and key events, confidently presenting plans, performance and outcomes to senior stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business management, or a scientific discipline.
  • 5–10 years’ experience in marketing, with demonstrated strategic and product or portfolio marketing responsibility.
  • Proven experience managing complex stakeholder relationships and operating effectively in a matrix organisation.
  • Strong data analysis and insight interpretation skills, with the ability to translate insight into effective marketing strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence effectively without formal authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional marketing or product marketing qualification.
  • Experience within scholarly publishing, academia, or working with learned societies.
  • Experience working across crossfunctional or cross location teams.
