The Publishing Operations team is responsible for the implementation of operational changes and support across Wiley's portfolio of journals. This team performs operational tasks at scale such as process and workflow change updates, editorial data management, operational change tracking, transition implementation and tracking and other supporting activities.

Within the team, the Journal Operations Manager drives management of team operational tasks for large projects and strategic implementations by providing oversight of junior colleagues and helping to manage project pipelines. The Journal Operations Manager reports to a Senior Manager in Publishing Operations, who has direct responsibility for decisions on the projects taken on by the Journal Operations Manager as well as the strategic direction of the team.

How you will make an impact:

  • Provides operational oversight of junior colleagues' day-to-day journal activities such as WOL tickets/basic maintenance, Author Guidelines updates, editorial/society contact data updates, product data updates and all other journal operational change tracking efforts and ticketing system needs.
  • Coordinates training of junior colleagues on operational tasks and activities as well as central systems used by the team.
  • Performs high level operational tasks independently.
  • Tracks and reports on downstream activity completion as needed across the business for standard journal activities to centralize operational functions across the portfolio.
  • Helps determine project pipeline on behalf of team.
  • Manages the implementation of programs across the Research business at scale that enhance our journal portfolios and reduce time and costs for the business.
  • Ensures an 'always on' capability to take on large scale, portfolio-wide projects with a quick turnaround time for delivery.
  • Manages tracking and reporting for large projects and supplies monthly reporting to leadership.
  • Performs all efforts with speed and accuracy with standardization, optimization and harmonization always in sight.
  • Monitors all planned annual and sprint efforts to ensure data reliability across the business.

  • Knowledge of journal publishing, publishing operations and workflows.

  • Data proficiency with the ability to 'self-service' data skills.
  • Presentation and change management capabilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills – including authoritative communication to influence.
  • A team player, someone who is personable and able to form strong relationships.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new systems and platforms.
  • Proficiency in standard office systems, including Microsoft 360.
