Role Overview:
The Director Advertising, Paid and Social Media will lead and strategize Wiley’s global digital media initiatives, unifying advertising, paid media, and social media capabilities to drive innovation, audience engagement, and return on investment (ROI). This role combines deep technical expertise in advertising practices with creative strategies to expand Wiley’s influence across standard and emerging social media platforms.
This position requires a leader comfortable with both storytelling through creative executions and leveraging data to inform decisions. Acting as an evangelist for Wiley’s digital marketing capabilities, the Director will drive greater internal adoption and visibility of these critical resources. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of creating synergy across owned social media, employee activation, social selling programs, programmatic advertising, search advertising, influencer strategy and more.
This role collaborates cross-functionally with brand, content, B2B and B2C field marketers, advanced analytics, and digital marketing experts in web and marketing automation to deliver integrated, multi-channel, journey-led campaigns. Additionally, the Director will leverage customer data platforms (CDP), audience management platforms, and journey orchestration tools to ensure alignment with Wiley’s business goals, grow market share and revenue.
The Director, Advertising, Social & Paid Media will oversee a team of media professionals and manage agency/vendor partnerships to balance Wiley’s owned expertise with scalability and cost efficiency. This includes ensuring seamless execution of campaigns that elevate Wiley’s brand, engage target audiences, and deliver measurable business outcomes. The successful candidate will bring experience leading teams through digital transformation initiatives and integrating advanced technologies into marketing strategies.
How you will make an impact:
- Develop and execute comprehensive media strategies across advertising, social, search and other channels.
- Ensure campaigns achieve defined KPIs, including increased engagement, lead generation, and conversion rates.
- Lead a high-performing team, providing mentorship, fostering innovation, and driving collaboration.
- Cultivate a dynamic, results-oriented media team aligned with Wiley’s business objectives.
- Manage budgets and vendor relationships, negotiating contracts and ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Maximize ROI and maintain financial accountability.
- Analyze campaign performance metrics and provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Continuously optimize strategies to improve campaign effectiveness and deliver measurable results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Brand, Field Marketing, Data Analytics, and Web to deliver integrated, multi-channel, journey-led campaigns.
- Align media strategies with broader company initiatives to create cohesive customer experiences.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging platforms and technologies, and competitor strategies.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- 8-10 years in advertising, social media, or paid media roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity, preferably within the publishing or media industry.
- Experience in publishing or a similar content-driven industry.
- Familiarity with AI and automation tools in digital advertising.
- Proven expertise in managing multi-channel paid media campaigns.
- Experience with influencer marketing and earned media a plus.
- Experience with community management and selecting/developing presence on emerging social media platforms.
- Expertise integrating search, social and paid media tactics into comprehensive programs.
- Strong analytical skills with a track record of data-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional communication and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in ad platforms, customer data platforms, social media tools.
- Experience with vendor management and budget oversight.
- Strategic media planning and execution.
- Advanced proficiency in campaign performance tools (e.g., Tableau, Adobe Analytics).
