About the Role

We are looking for a Content Acquisition Specialist to support the development and growth of special content across our journal portfolio.

In this role, you will help identify, develop and manage a healthy pipeline of special content opportunities by working closely with Editors-in-Chief, Guest Editors, Publishers, internal colleagues and external researchers.

You will use research insight, publishing knowledge and data to identify emerging topics, support content acquisition activity and help strengthen journal visibility and engagement within the research community.

  • Job Responsibilities
  • Support strategic content acquisition by identifying and developing special content ideas aligned to journal and portfolio objectives.
  • Work with Editors-in-Chief, Guest Editors, Publishers and internal teams to support the development of special issues and related content projects.

Use data and research insights to identify emerging topics, potential contributors, Guest Editors and areas of opportunity.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with researchers, editors and internal stakeholders across multiple subject areas.
  • Help coordinate multiple content acquisition projects at the same time, ensuring activity is tracked clearly and progressed effectively.
  • Support journal visibility through researcher engagement, conference activity, webinars, virtual events and other outreach opportunities.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, attention to detail and responsiveness across content acquisition workflows.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on team projects that improve efficiency, scalability and ways of working.
  • Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills
  • Experience working with the research community and/or within an STM publishing, scholarly publishing, content acquisition, commissioning or editorial environment.
  • Strong research credibility or relevant publishing/content acquisition experience.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust and engage professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and projects effectively.
  • An interest in scholarly publishing, research communication and supporting journal development.
  • Analytical skills and confidence in using data to support decision-making.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, collaborative approach.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.

Willingness to travel where needed, particularly for conferences, workshops or researcher engagement activities.

  • Preferred Qualifications, Experience and Skills
  • Experience supporting special issues, article collections, commissioning activity or content acquisition.
  • Experience working with Editors-in-Chief, Guest Editors, authors, reviewers or research communities.
  • Familiarity with bibliometric data, journal performance metrics, Excel, Power BI, VOSviewer, Scopus, Dimensions or similar tools.

Experience supporting webinars, conferences, researcher outreach or community engagement.

  • A Ph D, MSc or equivalent higher degree is preferred, but not required.
