Overview

Wildtouch is looking for new volunteers. Volunteers normally start in the animal hospital, assisting with cleaning cages, learning how to handle injured animals, and supporting basic treatment. Volunteers are then trained in caring for permanent animals and those in rehab aviaries, including daily feeding, cleaning, and enclosure maintenance.

They have a collection of reptiles and exotic insects requiring daily care. Other roles can include site maintenance and gardening. There are sometimes extra tasks such as setting up aviaries, preparing animals, and larger maintenance tasks.

Lunch breaks are provided; tea and coffee are available, but making rounds for the team is common. After the day’s tasks are complete, volunteers may have an opportunity to work with a particular animal for extra enrichment.

Volunteers usually work onsite at Wildtouch, with occasional opportunities to volunteer offsite at fundraising events.

Person Specification

They are a small team and welcome anyone willing to get involved, with any extra specialities welcomed. The only specification is that volunteers be 20 years or over.

Most admissions are birds, and some are free roaming; this role isn’t appropriate for anyone with a phobia of birds.

Training & Support

Training is provided by management and experienced volunteers. They will work with volunteers to build confidence and accommodate areas volunteers aren comfortable with.

Time commitment

Volunteers are asked to commit to one day a week, the day starts at 09:00 and usually finishes around 15:00. They understand that volunteers may have other commitments and may have to leave early.

About the organisation

Wildtouch Wildlife Rescue was formed in 2014 when several local wildlife rescues closed. Wild Touch Wildlife Rescue is a small, experienced rescue service run from their own home in Norfolk, rescuing and rehabilitating wild and exotic animals. They are dedicated to providing the best possible care for any sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife, regardless of species, whether that means caring for them themselves or transferring them to another facility. They work closely with a network of vets, specialist keepers, and rehabilitators around the country to ensure each animal receives the treatment it requires.

They admit around 800 injured animals a year, mostly birds, but from time to time they have some mammals and reptiles. They have around 200 animals onsite, including 2 foxes, 5 owls, 5 ferrets, a flock of pigeons, several snakes (one being a 13ft Burmese Python) and lizard species.

And finally

, Thank you for your interest; they look forward to having you join their team.

Thank you for volunteering. You make a difference.
