Time Commitment: 1-2 four-hour sessions a week depending on workload and time available to offer
Duration: Ongoing from February 2025
As part of ongoing efforts to reintroduce beavers to Britain, Beaver Trust live traps and translocates beavers under licence from conflict sites in the Tayside catchment to licenced release projects throughout Britain. This typically involves any trapped beavers being brought to the beaver holding facilities at Five Sisters Zoo (FSZ) for pre-release health screening. Beavers held at the facility need daily care and you will be there to support staff with these important animal husbandry tasks. By joining the team you will allow staff to focus their efforts on other key tasks at the zoo and for the populations of beavers in the wider landscape.
What will you be doing?
- As a Beaver Care Assistant, you will use your animal care skills and knowledge to help with the cleaning of the beaver pens, refreshing their bedding and food including collecting browse.
- You will assist the team with the safe movement of beavers between pens.
- You will also monitor camera trap footage of the beavers in their enclosures and note information as required.
