About The Role
This is a job where nature meets great food, beverages and coffee, contributing towards a mission that matters! We have an opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant to join our busy catering team at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre. You will be part of our kitchen team, preparing and presenting food to order in a fast-paced environment. Cooking seasonal menus for our visitors to enjoy and ensuring everyone in the team follows our food safety management systems. You’ll be working for an organisation that is dedicated to protecting wetland habitats and saving species around the world from extinction and reducing the human world’s impact on the climate, whilst inspiring visitors and encouraging them to get closer to nature by providing outstanding hospitality. All profits made by our restaurant go directly towards our vital conservation work worldwide to restore wetlands and unlock their superpower.
This is a casual position, therefore, hours are offered and worked on an ad-hoc basis as and when required to include weekends and bank holidays. Shifts will typically be 9am to 5pm although we will occasionally offer evening shifts for special events. Whilst you will be primarily based in our kitchen, you will also have the opportunity to carry out other tasks required in the restaurant, from serving customers to restocking shelves. Any necessary training will be provided to bring you up to speed with how we do things.

- Some previous experience of working in a commercial kitchen.
- A passion for food and pride in presentation.
- Some knowledge of food safety management systems.
- The ability to think outside of the 'pond' and a commitment to going the extra mile.
- Flexibility to adapt and cover a variety of different tasks as required.
