Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney reserve and visitor centre, and without their help, we wouldn’t be able to welcome visitors to this amazing 1300-acre wetland of international importance. Our volunteer team is friendly and committed, and they benefit by gaining new experiences, meeting new people, and sharing the story of our work.

At WWT Welney Wetland Centre, we aim to ensure visitors receive a warm, friendly welcome to have a memorable experience. In this role, you will help bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife by assisting visitors to explore the reserve and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation efforts to save wetlands for wildlife and people. You will support the delivery of interactive visitor engagement activities, including guided walks and seasonal events, by sharing engaging stories about our work and inspiring support for WWT as members.

On a daily basis, you will answer visitor questions, help them navigate the reserve, and identify basic wildlife. Regular briefings will keep you updated on centre activities, and coaching will be provided to help you feel confident in engaging visitors and leading guided activities.

Volunteers are a vital part of the WWT team. You will receive a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment, and other support needed.

If you\’re interested in volunteering at WWT but prefer not to apply online, please email volunteering@wwt.org.uk or leave a message at 01453 891 231 with your name and contact number.

About You

This role suits individuals with a positive, friendly, can-do attitude, committed to delivering excellent customer service. While Welney has a close-knit team, the ability to work independently and stay motivated during quieter times is important. You should have a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for WWT’s work, nature, and the outdoors, and be able to share this passion with others. Confidence in engaging visitors effectively, and good communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus), are key to success in this role.

About Us

We are WWT, dedicated to restoring the vital ecosystems we call wetlands. Our work is more crucial than ever, and our team includes passionate people conducting groundbreaking research and engaging with visitors.
