Ignite your passion for Science and become a key part of our team at Wildern School. This is a full-time position as a Science Technician, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.00pm, term time only (38 weeks). The actual annual salary is in the range of £19,976.01, which is equivalent to a full-time salary of £25,186.

As part of our commitment to staff wellbeing, RAISE Education Trust is trialling a two-week half-term break from 19th to 30th October 2026. Following this trial, should the Trust revert back to a one-week October half-term break from 2027, the contractual working weeks would increase to 39 weeks and the salary would increase accordingly.

Wildern School is a large and thriving secondary school in Hedge End, Southampton, seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our dynamic team due to the retirement of the current postholder. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in fostering a love of science in our students.

About the role

As a Science Technician at Wildern, you'll be an integral part of our science department, working directly with the Senior Science Technician to ensure engaging and effective practical learning experiences for our students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and setting up apparatus for science experiments and demonstrations.
  • Organising practical learning opportunities, ensuring a smooth and efficient learning environment.
  • Supporting teaching and learning within the department.
  • Maintaining and managing science equipment and resources.

What we're looking for

We're seeking a candidate with a genuine passion for science and a commitment to student success. Essential skills and qualifications include:

  • GCSE in Science (A-Level in Science preferred).
  • Good subject knowledge and ICT skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to handle a wide range of tasks and assist in other areas of the school as needed.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy.
  • Patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • A background in Science or previous laboratory experience is highly desirable.
