About the role
We are looking for Structural Examiners to join our Rail & Highway Structure teams based in Stockport. You’ll be part of a small, close-knit team contributing to the safety and resilience of the UK’s critical infrastructure.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with ICE, IStructE, or similar (or working towards).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in structural inspection, assessment, or asset management of infrastructure assets.
- STE4/STE5 competence.
- A valid UK driving license and willingness to travel nationally.
- Previous experience with bridges, culverts, retaining walls, tunnels, or other major infrastructure assets.
- Confidence in mentoring junior staff and providing constructive feedback.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver structural examinations in accordance with Network Rail standards and other specifications.
- Review inspection, examination, and survey reports to ensure quality and compliance.
- Provide engineering recommendations to support asset management decisions.
- Conduct QA reviews on reports prior to client submission.
- Work across sectors including rail, highways and civil buildings.
- Support and train engineers and examiners to raise reporting standards and progress STE competencies.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to align technical delivery with project goals.
- Liaise with contractors to ensure safe access to challenging locations (e.g. working at height, confined spaces).
