The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 Β£ per year.
We are seeking a Clerk of Works to act as technical representative on site, ensuring that all highways capital programme works are delivered safely, to specification, and to a high standard of quality. The role will support the delivery of smaller-scale highway improvement schemes, including town centre works, ensuring compliance with designs, contract conditions, and statutory requirements. The postholder will work closely with the Project Engineer to monitor progress, agree final accounts, and maintain quality and safety throughout project delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect and monitor highways and public realm works to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, and contract standards.
- Review materials and workmanship to ensure quality and durability.
- Oversee compliance with Health & Safety regulations and report any breaches or hazards.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, progress, and site activities.
- Support the Project Engineer in monitoring programme delivery and resolving on-site issues.
- Attend site meetings and provide technical input and progress updates.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned for future capital schemes.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, or similar role in highways or civil engineering projects.
- Knowledge of highways construction methods, materials, and specifications.
- Understanding of contract administration, site inspection procedures, and quality assurance processes.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM Regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify non-compliance or defects.
- Effective communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites and manage time efficiently.
- Full UK driving license and ability to travel to sites across the borough.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with contractors, engineers, and project teams.
