Senior Structural Engineer

We're looking for an experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join a collaborative Structural Engineering team, working across a diverse range of multidisciplinary projects in West Yorkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a varied and technically challenging workload, combining structural design, technical leadership and project delivery across a broad portfolio of building projects.

You'll have the opportunity to lead projects, influence design decisions and work closely with clients, consultants and other engineering disciplines.

You'll be involved in projects ranging from minor refurbishment works through to major capital schemes of up to £5 million, covering schools, commercial buildings, leisure facilities, residential properties and historic or listed buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design of new-build, refurbishment, extension and alteration projects.
  • Prepare structural calculations, reports, feasibility studies and technical specifications.
  • Design structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber and masonry.
  • Undertake structural inspections, condition surveys and defect investigations.
  • Assess structural stability, subsidence and building defects, providing practical engineering solutions.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Review and manage the work of external consultants.
  • Provide technical advice throughout the design and construction process.
  • Support project delivery from feasibility through to completion.
  • Manage structural maintenance, demolition and remediation projects where required.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, British Standards and current industry guidance.

About You

You'll be an experienced Structural Engineer with strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills and the confidence to lead projects, manage design teams and work closely with clients, consultants and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng, MIStruct E or MICE) preferred, but not essential.

Experience & Skills

  • Significant post-qualification experience in structural design.
  • Experience designing structures in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
  • Strong knowledge of refurbishment, alterations and existing buildings.
  • Experience undertaking structural surveys, inspections and condition assessments.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams and manage multiple projects.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience using structural design software such as Tekla Tedds, Auto CAD or similar.
  • Full UK driving licence
