Location: Predominantly onsite throughout Cornwall, you will be required on occasion to attend our Liskeard Head Office.

Role

Purpose: The Build Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring the onsite delivery of Wildanet's full fibre network, ensuring engineer teams and build partners are working to best practice, quality standards and required safety standards at all times.

The Build Coordinator will supervise on civils and fibre construction activities, provide a point of escalation and subject matter knowledge to engineering resources, and assist with issue resolution in real time.

The role holder will assess the viability of the project delivery plans and provide expertise to ensure projects are completed to the best possible standard, within budget and in the most effective way.

Main Responsibilities

  • Safety - Take responsibility for your own safety and ensure the safety of colleagues, contractors and members of the general public by fully complying with all procedures as set out in Wildanet's Health and Safety Policy.

You will conduct site audits, ensuring that the supply partner has sufficient risk assessments / method statements, qualifications and PPE to carry out the required works safely.

The Build Coordinator will work with the SHEQ and Compliance teams to ensure both safety and quality within the network and provide 2-way feedback on Contractor whereabouts.

The role holder will have confidence to challenge unsafe practises and will remediate as required, adopting a zero accident mentality.

  • Quality and Cost - Ensure all work on site is carried out to adequate standards; capturing all data to enable our installation teams to attend customer connection appointments with the correct tools, equipment and job information to achieve a first time install.
  • Governance and Fluidity - Monitor effective site operations and coordination of works with established key contacts within the Local Authority, Streetworks, Traffic Management and Build Partner agencies.

Ensure all documentation is checked and completed accordingly, coordinate build activities alongside the Project Professional; highlighting any risks that may arise and updating daily / weekly reports against project delivery milestones.

Ensure build stage governance is correct and upto date such as, but not exclusive to: in-life changes, SNN validation, Wayleaves, IT Systems.

  • Stakeholder - Liaise with the public, resolving any issues that the network construction activities may have caused, coach and support the build partner to irradicate any blockers, ensuring any issues are highlighted and escalated appropriately.

Act as a knowledgeable point of contact for support functions within Wildanet, build partners, the Local Authority and others as appropriate and, represent Wildanet and its interests at site meetings.

  • Support - Coach and support other internal teams to achieve business goals, support with high level escalations, react to changing priorities to meet customer and commercial requirements, undertake lead roles/projects to support the team and, faulting where skilled, able and required.
  • Additional responsibilities

The role holder may be asked infrequently to advise or participate on soft digs, civils avoidance, cabling (incl TRR), splicing, testing and assist with safety related activities e. g confined spaces, MEWPs and, line management cover.

Key Activities

While duties and responsibilities will vary, they typically include

  • Ensure safe working practices are in place and validated.
  • Owning build from partner issue to RFS and node level.
  • Delivering a project’s scope and goals as agreed with the Project Professional.
  • Work with the line manger to schedule project timelines against milestone delivery.
  • Coordinate engineering teams to achieve delivery.
  • Assure quality by undertaking daily site visits and checks in adherence to protocol.
  • Carry out risk assessments ensuring sites are safe; challenging and remediating where a site or working practises have been identified as unsafe.
  • Build administration, including updating necessary documentation and relevant internal teams as builds progress.
  • Meeting budgetary objectives by contributing to ensure CPPP is achieved (or beaten) using innovative engineering alternatives.
  • Reporting regularly to first line management of build progress against the build delivery plan.
  • Managing build partner relationships to keep them on track in line with the pre agree plan and goals.
  • Support management to achieve the wider business goals.
  • Use CEMAR to report defects and site issues.
  • Completion of tasks as per NEC3

Essential Person Specification

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of the PIA network, NRSWA legislation, HAUC Spec (desirable), Chapter 8 (desirable) and NJUG (desirable).
  • Knowledge of fibre splicing, testing, rodding and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations for telecoms work.
  • Understanding quality measures.
  • Experience of large, multi-regional operations ideally gained within the telecommunications infrastructure environment. (desirable)

Skills/Attributes

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in project area-specific challenges.
  • Ability to work independently, making on-site decisions with confidence.
  • Strong technical aptitude with attention to detail.
  • Understands civil avoidance tools and techniques.
  • Basic understanding of civil capabilities including SLG and TM.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent and confident using Microsoft Excel and other systems.
  • The role holder will represent our business in all that they do and will need to demonstrate our passion for connecting Cornwall & Devon.
  • Proven ability to lead / influence engineering teams. (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Local Authorities road-works codes of practice. (desirable)

Experience

  • Minimum 18 months + experience in fibre build, including working in UG and OH network
  • Demonstrated success in resolving complex site-specific challenges.
  • Civils, cabling and network activation experience along with good technical knowledge of fibre networks.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in telecommunications infrastructure delivery (desirable).
  • Project management experience (desirable).

Qualifications

  • Good level of education to include English and Maths qualifications.
  • Relevant BT/Openreach PIA accreditation.
  • NRSWA accredited.
  • Trained to access chambers.
  • Valid driving license.
  • First Aid trained (desirable).

Circumstances

  • Core working hours are 37.5 hours a week, between the hours of 8am-8pm, Monday to Saturday.
  • There may be periods of extensive pressure to meet non-negotiable deadlines.
  • Weekend working and OT may be required during peak periods of milestone delivery or due to permit restrictions.
  • This role is largely field based but requires some office work.
