The Test Technician is responsible for the daily testing and verification of products within the Production department, ensuring all activities comply with company procedures, Health & Safety regulations, and environmental standards. The role supports the achievement of production targets by ensuring product quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct testing of products in line with predefined Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs).
- Program and verify PCB assemblies with the correct software revisions.
- Carry out and set up electrical soak testing where required.
- Verify incoming pre-programmed PCB assemblies for accuracy and revision control.
- Support the development and improvement of new and existing test equipment.
- Review and proofread test procedures (ATP/PATP) before release to production.
- Validate test equipment and setups prior to production use.
- Identify and communicate any issues or risks to the Testing Supervisor or Production Manager promptly.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure smooth production flow and adherence to schedules.
- Support other production areas as required to ensure efficient delivery of products.
- Apply and promote Lean Manufacturing techniques where appropriate.
- Deputise for the Testing Supervisor when required.
- Undertake additional duties as directed by management.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a production testing environment.
- Experience working with small batch, high-mix production environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with SMD components and electronic assemblies.
- Experience using test equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Working knowledge of programming tools (e.g., MPLAB, SEGGER).
- Understanding of quality standards such as ISO9001 and AS9100D.
- Proficient in PC use, including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 GCSEs (Grade A-C), including Maths and English (or equivalent).
- City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electronics (preferred).
- Relevant experience in an electronics or manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to undertake further training where required.
