Principal Designer (Building Regulations Our London based client is seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Principal Designer (Building Regulations) to join their growing team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring full compliance with the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), particularly the new duty holder roles and requirements introduced by the Building Safety Act 2022. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in planning, managing, monitoring, and coordinating design work to ensure all projects meet the statutory requirements, with a particular focus on fire and structural safety for Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) where applicable. You will be a proactive leader, guiding project teams, liaising with regulatory bodies, and championing best practices in building safety throughout the design and construction lifecycle. As a Principal Designer your responsibilities include: Plan, manage, coordinate and monitor design work in relation to Building Regulations compliance Provide advice and support relating to Building Regulations compliance Cooperate with and support the project team on matters relating to compliance and duties under the Building Regulations Attend design team and client meetings Carry out compliance reviews Manage and maintain compliance related documents (e.g. Trackers) Skills, Experience & Qualifications Significant Experience: Proven experience (typically 7+ years) in a senior design, technical or project management role with direct responsibility for design compliance. Deep Regulatory Knowledge: Expert-level, practical understanding of the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), especially the Building Safety Act 2022, and relevant Approved Documents (e.g., Part B, Part M, Part K, Part P). Higher-Risk Buildings (HRB) Experience: Demonstrable experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary projects, particularly Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) as defined by the Building Safety Act, including experience with Gateways 1, 2, and 3. Leadership & Coordination: Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills to effectively manage design teams and stakeholders. Risk Management: Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate design-related compliance risks and residual design risks. Qualifications: A relevant degree in Architecture, Structural Engineering, Building Surveying, Fire Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g., RIBA, RICS, CIBSE, ICE, IFE, CIOB) or equivalent. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex regulatory requirements clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.In return the company offer a salary up to £90,000pa plus associated benefits.
