Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Network Lead, the Gas Trainee Operative will assist the Main Layer in carrying out tasks and activities necessary to ensure great quality of service provided within the gas distribution network.
Gas Trainee Operative Fitter Responsibilities
- Carry out work on the network as instructed by the Network Officer, including but not limited to:
- Mains Replacement
- New Service Installations
- District Governor Maintenance
- Dial before you dig
- Mains surveying
- Service disconnections
- General duties as the business may require in other functions
Health and Safety

- Complying with and adhering to IEG’s accepted standards and procedures.
- Where appropriate, taking responsibility for workplace hazards/risks you identify and communicate to management.
- Undertaking regular reviews of workplace risks/hazards that are present in your work.
- When, and if, necessary, participate in the investigation of accidents/incidents according to IEG’s procedures.
- Undertaking appropriate and effective staff training when required or necessary.
- Promoting a healthy and safe workplace.
- Actively supporting health and safety initiatives.
- Comply with any rehabilitation plan designed with you for a return to work after an accident.
