This role focuses on the research, development, and continuous improvement of pressure products manufactured at the Irlam site, with responsibilities spanning design, engineering support, quality management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the research, development, and continuous improvement of pressure products manufactured at the Irlam site, ensuring we maintain our position as a global leader.
- Support all Irlam-manufactured products through materials development, enhanced manufacturing methods, and cost-reduction initiatives, working closely with procurement and suppliers.
- Maintain accurate engineering drawings, data sheets, and bills of materials (BOMs), including producing BOMs for engineered-to-order solutions beyond standard product ranges.
- Partner with the Product Manager to assess non-standard product enquiries and design tailored solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with the quality management system and drive the ongoing improvement of tools, materials, and engineering processes.
- Provide day-to-day technical support to UK internal and external sales teams, as well as WIKA subsidiary companies worldwide.
- Stay informed about updates to relevant legislation and design standards that could affect product manufacturing or design, such as PED/PE(S)R, ASME, and ATEX mechanical.
- Support the Purchasing Department by supplying detailed drawings and technical specifications to enable high-quality supplier purchasing.
- Provide technical support to operations, addressing daily product-related queries and resolving issues promptly.
- Identify, lead, and implement process improvements within the PCU to maximise efficiency, increase productivity, and enhance product quality.
- Manage special projects as required, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organisational goals.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager and Senior Leadership Team on wider business projects and initiatives as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, or product development role (pressure, temperature, or related instrumentation experience highly desirable).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD software) with the ability to produce accurate engineering drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials.
- Experience in pressure systems, metrology equipment, or precision-engineered products (e.g., PED/PE(S)R, ASME, ATEX mechanical familiarity is an advantage).
- Strong background in materials selection, manufacturing methods, and cost-reduction initiatives, ideally within a precision manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead R&D, product improvement, or innovation projects, from concept through to manufacturing handover.
- Experience working cross‑functionally with Operations, Procurement, Quality, and Sales teams on technical issues and supplier collaboration.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a track record of supporting daily operations and resolving complex technical challenges.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and experience improving engineering tools, processes, and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of providing technical support to internal stakeholders and global subsidiaries.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise effectively, and deliver on time in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- HND level or equivalent in a technical discipline or engineering discipline.
