FirstTel Communications Corporation is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and results-driven individual to join our team as Telecommunications Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional looking to grow with a rapidly expanding telecommunications company. Operating under the ManitouLink brand, FirstTel is positioned to become a major telecommunications provider in the region, supported by a significant and growing market opportunity. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in supporting the company’s growth and ongoing operations. Reporting directly to the Business Services Manager, the Telecommunications Manager will oversee the operations and strategic development of FirstTel Communications Corporation while helping drive the expansion of ManitouLink services throughout the region.
Education and Qualifications
- Requires a degree or diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Network Engineering or Information Technology. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years experience managing a multi-service environment in the telecommunications industry.
- Be proficient in budgeting and financial planning, vendor negotiations, product development, regulatory compliance, and market analysis with competitive positioning.
Recommended Qualifications
- Industry Certification in Networking, VOIP/Unified Communications, Security, or Project Management would be considered an asset.
- Technical expertise in Networking and ISP Infrastructure with experience in network design and capacity planning, redundancy and high availability systems, and Bandwidth management/QoS.
- Experienced in App services management, subscriber management systems, and streaming performance and uptime.
- Have strong knowledge and experience hosting VoIP platforms.
- Understanding of LTE/4G/5G technologies, mobile core networks, SIM provisioning and billing.
- Experienced running OSS/BSS systems, service provisioning and troubleshooting processes, and SLA management.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive business and operational plan, including strategic, human resources, marketing, and financial components.
- Evaluate and enhance current service offerings, identifying opportunities to expand into areas such as wireless and fibre internet, VoIP, IPTV, mobile data plans, and traditional telephony services.
- Recruit, train, and supervise key staff, ensuring all employees possess the required certifications, skills, and professional development opportunities.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable municipal, provincial, and federal laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Oversee the maintenance, safety, and efficient use of all physical assets, infrastructure, and facilities.
- Promote and uphold high standards of customer service, ensuring quality assurance benchmarks are achieved and continuously improved.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, including revenues and expenditures, against approved budgets; implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Prepare and deliver quarterly financial and operational reports to the Wikwemikong Development Commission Board of Directors.
- Lead marketing and sales initiatives to grow the customer base, including attending trade shows, engaging with local organizations, and managing media and public relations.
- Represent and promote the Communications division within the community by participating in events and external activities that enhance brand visibility and reputation.
- Conduct ongoing market research to identify and pursue new products, services, and opportunities within the evolving telecommunications industry.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
