The Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Department of Lands and Natural Resources (DLNR) is seeking applications from qualified individuals to apply for the position of Survey Technician. Under the direction of the Director of Lands & Natural Resources, the Survey Technician is responsible for assisting and completing cadastral surveys for Wiikwemkoong. The responsibilities within this position are flexible and may be adjusted according to experience and community needs and priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and/or assists in the field data collection involved with Cadastral Surveys and the development of new survey plans utilizing Trimble surveying equipment;
  • Operates Auto-Cad or Microsurvey and GIS software programs;
  • Liaise with Surveying firms on survey projects within Wiikwemkoong;
  • Participate in training opportunities as required to work towards certification as a Canada Lands Surveyor;
  • Assist when required, in the Additions to Reserve process of acquired Fee Simple lands or Specific Claim settlements;
  • Locates survey bars, boundary lines and other field investigations as requested;
  • Carry out site inspections on related land allotments, as required;
  • Assists other DLNR programs as required.

Requirements:

  • Post secondary diploma or degree in Geography, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Familiar and/or functional understanding of GIS/Auto-Cad/Microsurvey software programs.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of general land use planning, lands registration, and development applications processing.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prepare and deliver presentations if required.
  • Ability to speak Anishnaabemowin or a willingness to learn.
  • Current Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.

Salary: $65,009.00
